DC/AC Inverters are used to provide ac mains power where only a dc voltage is available. For example batteries, solar panels, and fuel cells only ever produce a dc voltage, and often there is the need to drive ac powered devices from the batteries, solar panel, or fuel cell output. The DC/AC Inverter takes the dc voltage and inverts it before producing an AC sinewave.

DC AC InverterThere are several types of DC/AC Inverter many of which attempt to recreate a rough version of a sinewave. These units are low cost but can produce application issues when used to power certain devices, e,g, interference on radios or TVs. For this reason CP Power & Automation Ltd only recommend the use of True Sinewave Inverters. These inverters produce a sinewave comparable in quality with the ac mains, meaning that equipment can be powered without application problems.

DC/AC Inverters are sized according to continuous and surge power ratings. Surge ratings of inverters can be as high as 3 x nominal power. CP Power & Automation Ltd provide inverters with 12Vdc, 24Vdc, 48Vdc, 110Vdc, and 220Vdc input voltages, and with 230Vac or 110Vac outputs. Power ratings are from 150W to 40kW, and units can be provided as chassis mount, rack mount, or wall mounting cabinets. Many large systems consist of multiple inverter modules configured in a parallel or n+1 arrangement, and in these cases it is imperative that the units have output synchronisation to ensure compatibility of their output frequencies.

DC/AC Inverters are also an integral part of UPS systems, where mains voltages are converted to dc, backed up by batteries, and then inverted back to mains to ensure the integrity of the supply.
